Azeitão: Moscatel, cheese and a historic village
Azeitão lies in the municipality of Setúbal, close to the Arrábida hills. The name covers several places: Vila Nogueira, Brejos, Vendas and Vila Fresca. This page focuses on Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, the village most visitors walk around.
Two products made the area known: Moscatel de Setúbal, a fortified dessert wine, and Queijo de Azeitão, a sheep cheese with a protected name. Two historic houses offer guided visits.

Queijo de Azeitão and Moscatel de Setúbal
What they are.
Queijo de Azeitão
An aged, semi-soft and buttery cheese made from raw sheep's milk. It is curdled with thistle flower and salted. The protected area is Palmela, Sesimbra and Setúbal. It is not a fresh goat cheese.
Moscatel de Setúbal
A fortified wine. Moscatel de Setúbal and Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal are recognised names.
